Historicising Cultural Sport Psychology : Dare we De-centre Methodological Eurocentrism?
2021
In this essay we critically reflect on our respective journeys to and within cultural sport psychology (CSP). Since the inception, CSP scholars have advocated for opening the privileged academic space for marginalised voices and omitted subject themes; as well as cautioned researchers that the CSP project itself needs to be constantly revisited and reworked to keep it in progressive flux. Imagining the other : orientalism and occidentalism in Tamil-European relations in South India
2006
Jouhki on tutkinut idän ja lännen problematiikkaa Edward Saidin (1935–2003) vuonna 1978 kirjoittaman teoksen Orientalism - Western Conceptions of the Other ja sitä seuranneen mittavan akateemisen keskustelun pohjalta. Kun länsi on yleensä rationaalisuuden, yksilöllisy…

"I'm Not Like Indian Women": Reflections of Young European Women in Varanasi, India
2006
The aim of this article is to look at the ways in which young European women staying in the city of Varanasi for long periods of time talk about India and how they negotiate their place and role as women there. This article brings this discussion to the post colonial era and endeavors to initiate a discussion about how to understand the encounters between visiting Western women and the locals in India today. The article is based on nine interviews which Korpela conducted in Varanasi, and on her p…
